Parkersburg – Merle A. Stewart of Parkersburg died Friday night in St. Vincent’s Hospital at Indianapolis. The wife of Marion A. Stewart, she had been in failing health the past year. Arrangements are incomplete at Powers Funeral Home. smc

Roachdale – Mrs. Merle Stewart, 70 of Rt. 2, Ladoga, died Friday evening in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She had been a cashier for a grocery at Roachdale. Mrs. Stewart was a member of the Roachdale Presbyterian Church and Order of Eastern Star. Born Oct. 24, 1910, At Annapolis, Ill., she was a daughter of John and Lille Prevo Newberry. She was educated in Illinois schools. She was married to Don Henley in 1931. He died in 1958. She was then married to Marion Stewart in 1963. He survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Dianne) Keck of Roachdale; three stepdaughters, Jill Bemis of Bainbridge, Jo Brewer of Lancaster, Ohio, and Leslie VanHook of Alaska; four stepsons, James Stewart of Linden, Rusty Stewart of Rt.3, Crawfordsville, and Don and Frank Stewart of Crawfordsville; a brother, Harold Newberry of Marshall, Ill.; two grandchildren, Keith Keck of Ladoga and Kara Magill of Roachdale; seven stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Servies-Morgan Funeral Home in Roachdale with the Rev. Leo Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Roachdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today. smc
